Art As I View

Art is an imitation, not an imitation “thrice removed from the truth” but the imitation that “gives the liveliest pleasure” to creator and beholder. In words of David Daiches, art “gives new knowledge, yields aesthetic satisfaction and produces a better state of mind.” Artists’ job is not to present the photographic representation of life in totality; artists exalt, idealize and imaginatively recreate a world which has its own meaning and beauty, of things which are conspicuously absent in raw, rough and real world. Through my paintings I make attempts to escape from reality so that I can enrich reality and convalesce the whacked life with splendours.

I have always been enchanted by mystical Nature, the greenery that is brightened by the other hues. Inspired by William Wordsworth’s free play of imagination at a tender age, I have often been taken back to the valley of Scotland, the profound valley that was resounded by the Solitary Reaper’s incomparable voice. Be it a green paddy field in Assam’s remote village or Western Ghat hills in deep South India, be it the rocky Himalayan mountain range or Kanyakumari’s Triveni Sangam, nature has always something great to offer: inspiration to live and relive, to explore and create. Hence, through my paintings I endeavour to capture this great force of inspiration with an attempt to preserve its mystery as a gift for mankind.
